So, What Is the New Normal at Church?

Now that we are worshiping as a congregation again, what do we need to keep in mind?

First of all, we will tell you what you can expect of us as church leaders. We will do our best to make this place a safe environment. We will clean the worship space after every service. We will sanitize the things that get touched most often: doors, pews, communion wear, etc.

We will take special precautions when distributing the Lord’s supper. Pastor Lillo will either wear gloves during the distribution of communion or he will thoroughly sanitize his hands after each table. We will not be kneeling at the rail . Instead, we will be standing right in front of the front row of pews. We will also be spacing out the people receiving communion So that each person is about 6 feet apart from someone he or she is not sharing a home with.

We will also not be singing hymns for the first several Sundays after we resume worshiping together. Singing encourages the spread of bodily fluids (I know that sounds kind of gross, but it’s true). We also encourage our members not to use the hymnals during the service. All of the words for the order of service and the scripture readings will be found on the PowerPoint presentations that we will be doing during our time of worship.

We will not be collecting offerings during the service. Instead, you are invited to leave your offerings in the plate either before or after the service.

We will not be having our church picnic this coming month. Our church council, though, will resume meeting on the 2nd Sunday of each month after the worship service.

We are not going to be mandating the use of face masks. If you feel comfortable wearing one, by all means wear one. We are also not going to be mandating any set distance between worshippers during a worship service. Please use your best judgment. We would encourage family and members sharing a house to sit together and leave some room between you and another household.

Of course, we would also encourage those who are elderly or who have compromised health conditions too think very strongly before joining with us together in worship. We will continue to offer video versions of these worship services for those who don’t feel comfort rible gathering together at this time.

All that having been said, it is wonderful to be able to worship together once again. May the Lord bless our worship experience today and into the future.
