To the Ends of the Earth

On Monday, October 29 at 6:30 PM, we will be showing the latest movie produced by the WELS production company based upon events in the New Testament. The title of this movie is To the Ends of the Earth and tells about a part of the mission journeys of the Apostle Paul.

In the movie, we witness Saul’s call to become Jesus’ apostle after he had been a persecutor of the Christian church in Jerusalem. We then move on to see him on his second missionary journey a good number of years later.

We wee him receive a vision that invites him and his companion Luke to travel to Macedonia. Their first stop is the city of Philippi where he gains the first converts to Christianity on the European continent, Lydia and her companions. We also see the trouble that befell him when he cast out a demon from a girl who was being used as a fortune-teller. He ends up in prison and brings the jail-keeper to faith.

As with the other WELS productions, this movie tells the biblical account with a minimum of embellishment and speculation.

The movie stars Israeli actor Aki Avni. All are invited to come. You can also invite your friends and relatives to come and enjoy it.

Bible Class

Last year, we started a Bible class on the life of Martin Luther and the history of the Reformation. We did not finish it, so we will do so in the first week of October.

In the first two classes of the academic year, we will also discuss what we will be studying for the rest of the year. Please come and help us shape the class for the coming year.

FVL Fall Play

The students of FVL will be presenting the play The Election on Thursday, October 18 @ 7 PM, Saturday, October 20 @ 4 PM, and Sunday, October 21 @ 2 PM. Mark Davenport figures he will cruise to victory in the special election for the student body president after the current president resigns in disgrace. His only opponent is the nerdy Christy Martin, who wants to eliminate football.

But when a mysterious benefactor gives her an unlimited budget, the politics start to get ugly. Enjoy this hilarious satire on the contemporary political scene!

On Saturday, October 6, Miranda Bork and David Rudie will be united in holy matrimony in a wedding service held at St. Paul’s. Please be sure to keep this new couple in your prayers as they begin their married life together under the blessing of God.

Joint Reformation Service

If you remember, last year there was a major celebration of the 500th anniversary of the start of the Reformation. Just because this isn’t a jubilee year, that doesn’t mean that we won’t celebrate the reformation. On Sunday, November 4 at 4:00 PM, there will be an area-wide joint Reformation service at FVL.
