First LessonNumbers 16:22-27:

22The Lord said to Moses, 23“Tell Aaron and his sons, ‘This is how you are to bless the Israelites. Say to them: 24  ‘“The Lord bless you and keep you; 25the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; 26the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.”’ 27So they will put my name on the Israelites, and I will bless them.”

Psalm of the Day: Psalm 8 in Christian Worship

O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

You have set your glory above the heavens.

When I consider your heavens,

   the work of your fingers,

what is man that you are mindful of him,

the Son of Man that you care for him?

You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings

and crowned him with glory and honor.

You made him ruler over the works of your hands;

you put everything under his feet.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son

   and to the Holy Spirit,

as it was in the beginning,

is now, and will be forever.   Amen.

Second Lesson: Galatians 3:23-29:

23Before the coming of this faith, we were held in custody under the law, locked up until the faith that was to come would be revealed. 24So the law was our guardian until Christ came that we might be justified by faith. 25Now that this faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian.

26So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, 27for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Gospel Lesson/Sermon Text: Luke 2:21:

On the eighth day, when it was time to circumcise the child, he was named Jesus, the name the angel had given him before he was conceived.
